2010 PGA championship safe bets

The final major of the year takes place this weekend at Yower Online as PGA Championship odds tee off Thursday from the steep banks and windswept links of Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. A total purse of $7.5 million will be on the line with a winning share of $1.3 million as YE Yang will try to defend his PGA Championship golf betting title from last year. Whistling Straits last hosted the PGA in 2004 when Vijay Singh was the winner. Yower Golf odds have opened with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as golf betting favorites at 12-1 and 10-1 respectively but that is based on their "name brand" status with the general public as neither has played well as of late.

Rory McIlroy was the next choice in PGA Championship odds at 15-1 while Padraig Harrington and local hero Steve Stricker were at 20-1 to round out the golf betting favorites. Woods is coming off one of the worst performances of his career last week as he was 18 over par in a total disaster at the Akron Firestone Country Club for his highest score ever in a 72 hole event. "Just not playing well," said Woods. "It's been a long year." There is plenty of talk that Woods will not join the Ryder Cup team as his performance this year doesn't merit consideration.

Somehow, despite his troubles and not winning a tournament this year, Woods still leads Mickelson by a tiny fraction on the Official World Golf Ranking. On the positive his best two golf betting finishes this year were 4th in the two previous majors held in the United States at the Masters and US Open. Mickelson has one win this year but it was the coveted Green Jacket of the Masters. He finished 4th in the US Open. The third place man on the Official World Golf Ranking will miss the PGA Championship. Lee Westwood is out indefinitely due to a leg injury.

    Tiger Woods on the fringe

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. -- As Tiger Woods walked -- marched, actually -- off his final hole Friday afternoon following completion of second-round play at the AT&T National, gallery support accompanied every step. There were the typical shouts of encouragement -- "Go, Tiger!" and "We love you, Tiger."

John Daly back in the hunt

Just when you thought John Daly had run out of ways to make himself relevant, he shoots 6-under par 66 Thursday to start the British Open. "It's a good feeling," he said.
