Brett Favre appears headed back to the Minnesota Vikings.
Favre boarded a plane in Hattiesburg, Miss., Tuesday afternoon and headed north on a Vikings' private plane. After arriving in Minnesota, Favre was driven to the Vikings' camp headquarters.
Although Favre hasn't said so publicly, the assumption is that Favre has, indeed, decided to return for another NFL season and quarterback the Vikings in 2010. A press conference will be held Wednesday, according to The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Judd Zulgad, which falls exactly one year after Favre signed with the Vikings for the first time.
Favre's official website strongly hinted that he's coming back, sending out an e-mail Tuesday afternoon saying, "Stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings today on Brett Favre's possible return. Visit the Vikings.com and Officialbrettfavre.com for more information."
Later, Tuesday afternoon, the following message was posted on the site: "Thank you for visiting Brett Favre's website. We are awaiting a statement soon from the Vikings. As soon as this is available we will pass it along. Thanks for your support."
The news that Favre is headed to Minnesota came just an hour after word surfaced that three members of the Vikings -- Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell -- made a trip to Mississippi to try to get Favre to come back.
Jay Glazer of Fox reported that Favre told Longwell, Hutchinson and Allen that he will rejoin the Vikings and be their teammate this year. ESPN's Rachel Nichols echoed that sentiment -- she received a text message from Longwell confirming Favre's return.
"We simply went down [to Mississippi] to get an answer and after talking for a while, his answer was 'yes,'" Longwell wrote. "He loves the guys in the locker room and is doing it for all of us."
Minnesota won its preseason opener on Saturday, 28-7 over the Rams. Tarvaris Jackson, the Vikings' likely starter had they lost Favre, got the start, with Sage Rosenfels backing him up. When Jackson was asked Tuesday about Favre's apparent pending return, he told the Star-Tribune, "I really don't care. I feel like if my number is called, I'll be ready, and I'm going to continue to try and work hard and get better. That's all I can do."
